The best big and tall office chairs (350 to 500 lb)
Most office chairs are rated to 250 or 300 pounds. If you're a heavier person, or tall and broad, the right big and tall office chair lasts longer and sits better. Here's what to check, and the chairs rated for it.
What to check
- Weight rating, with room to spare. The rating is a maximum, not a target. Pick a chair rated comfortably above your weight; it will feel sturdier and wear more slowly.
- Seat width. A narrow seat with fixed arms pinches. Look for a wide seat or arms that adjust outward.
- Seat depth. Larger, taller frames usually need a deeper seat to support the thighs.
- Seat height. If you're tall too, check our guide for tall people. Several big and tall chairs don't rise very high.
